"I had a DVD called 'Water Dog' and I would put it in and play it when Buster was a pup and it was just pretty cool," Faulkner said. "I hunt with a guy in Arkansas who told me, 'I've had guys bring field-trial dogs out here who can't (hunt).' "I had a buddy who went out to West Tennessee to become a professional trainer and I would talk with him on the phone and explain problems and he would give me ideas on how to solve them. "I get a little passionate about things when I do them," Faulkner said. Faulkner said he learned from other trainers and soaked up all of the training knowledge he could from every available source. Some club members invited Faulkner to a training session and that's when Faulkner said he became hooked on the idea of having a dog that was able to run hunt tests, as well as be an efficient hunting retriever.įaulkner began Buster's training at seven weeks of age. "I had always wanted a dog to hunt with and it ended up as a surprise to my wife who was six months pregnant with our first child."įaulkner, who was born and raised in Knoxville, said he became interested in training Buster and did research in books and ended up attending a banquet hosted by the East Tennessee Retriever Club.

Now, HRCH Sir Buster Lucht Biscuit MH, or "Buster" as he is more commonly known, a black Labrador retriever, holds two major titles - he was named an United Kennel Club Hunting Retriever Champion in May 2008 and an American Kennel Club Master Hunter in May 2009.
